My new favorite band; The Low Anthem

Had the great privilege of seeing The Low Anthem at Shepherds Bush Empire on thursday. I saw them on their last visit to London 3 odd months ago at The Tabernacle and after such as short space of time this band have easily migrated their performance to the larger venue (the Empire gig, was their biggest show ever). The Low Anthem are made up of three permanent members all of whom are multi-instrumentalists who continuously change individual roles in creating their sometimes bluesly, sometimes gospel, folky, always inventive 'New Americana'. This is definately a band that have made a commitment to be their best when live rather than using studio gimmickry, you simply wouldn't be able to appreiciate them fully without seeing them perform. The Gospel thing i mentioned? well, yes, the live show is like that; almost as though its the spirituality of music itself, for its own sake, is what they are trying to convey. A fantastic band

Here's a beautiful stop motion video to their single "Charlie Darwin", a worthy visual accompaniment to their single, one of the best videos i've ever seen.

And inventive stuff at Paste studios, "This God Damn House"
